“ My family and I stopped in for a quick dinner while in the Davis area and it was empty when we arrived, but we were greeted and seated immediately. My daughter wanted steak, but they did not have a steak option on the Kid's Menu so I ordered the Less Dinner option of the Santa Maria Tri Tip and it came with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and Broccoli. She ate a good chunk of it and there was still plenty to take home for lunch tomorrow - all for $10.99! My husband ordered the Western BBQ Burger with Fries and enjoyed it as well. I love the ambiance of Black Bear Diner - they offer huge portions and there is something for everyone. You're never blown away by their food, but it's comforting to know that you can still get a decent meal no matter what time of day it is. Also, their pies...take one home! They're always calling my name when we visit. Staff were friendly, but Kylie (I believe that's how he spelt his name) went above and beyond - super attentive and just on it! We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area! ”

“ It is very surprising to see what a low rating this Black Bear Diner has. I have been to this location several times this year, and each time the service has been fast and friendly, and the food has been tasty and satisfying. The vibe here is laid-back, so we have never felt rushed out the door and have really enjoyed chatting and eating without feeling high pressured at all. Service has been great and attentive, and we have always been asked if we wanted refills on our drinks and sauces without ever getting an attitude from anyone. Surprisingly there has always been little to no wait times to be seated. There are plenty of food options for every budget, so you are sure to find something for everyone in your party to enjoy regardless of their finances or dietary preferences or restrictions. In particular there is a section of the menu that offers you their classic entrées in a smaller portion that is still satisfying, but it is priced very reasonably so you can have a full meal for just around $10. Like most diners, you will find that black bear offers breakfast at any time of the day. If you or someone who has a hearty appetite, the sleeper hit is the taco salad that is well balanced, a feast for your eyes as well as for your stomach. Do not forget to check out the dessert counter as you're being seated because you will want to save some room for the pies and the special Huckleberry ice cream that you can't find anywhere else. Every single time we have been here this place has deserved a five star rating. Unfortunately, like every other restaurant in current times, they are also dealing with a spike in food cost that we see every day that we go to the supermarket. Do not be shocked that the prices are not rock bottom. I do have to say, though that the food that you get will be worth the price that you were asked to pay, and again I want to stress that you will find things on the menu to suit every budget. Don't forget to ask for the kids menu, which is a great deal for anyone with Littles. ”

“ This is one of my favorite Black Bear Diners in the chain, and I always eat here when staying at the Best Western next door. Service is always good, staff are attentive. Good food too for a Black Bear, whatever they do at this location should be replicated to others where the service is not as good. ”

“ I was on my way down to the Bay Area and remembered I had a free breakfast here. My friend will just have to pay for his own! We getr seated right away, no line and the service was fine. The interior looks similar to all the other Black Bear Diners I've been to, different but similar. I got the Bear Breakfast that came with joining their Bear Club. I got it with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, French toast and a half slab of thick cut ham. All was cooked as ordered and pretty standard, plus whatta ya want for free? My friend had the California omelet with hashbrowns bread. The omelet was good, but the bread roll was quite dry. We loved the hashbrowns, they're different than regular hashbrowns in that the potato is grated in larger strips. I guess I'd come back here, maybe not so much for breakfast, but the patty Melt has been real good. ”

“ I enjoy coming to Black Bear for its yummy comfort food. I especially enjoy the waffles. The interior itself is cute enough, like any other Black Bear Diner, with a Davis touch to it. The staff are friendly. Service tends to be a bit slow at times...could be because lack of staff or amount of customers there are. Location is great and there are some spots for parking in their lot. If not, theres more around. ”
